Wooooow, I am so inspired by all these posts about things you’re thankful for! Since the Christmas spirit has taken hold full-force around here (re: every single public place I visited last weekend had Christmas music blaring), it encourages my heart to see how many people are still taking the time to be thankful.
This post is brought to you by James, who was amazing and let me travel to Charlottesville to visit two of my best friends, Gaby and Cat. I’ve noticed how easy it is as a newlywed to put friendships on the backburner – definitely not on purpose, but you just get caught up in your new life. It’s not, however, like I need my friendships any less. It makes me feel so much more complete and balanced when I get girl time, and I know James appreciates it when I’m not dumping my emotions (most of which he doesn’t understand) solely on him.
Gaby and Cat were two of my roommates in college. I love them both so much. It’s funny because we’re all so different, but we need each other so much more because of that. Both of them are wise, loving, and fun. Gaby has a peaceful, calming presence, and Cat is spontaneous and confident. I honestly have no idea what I contribute to the mix, but I know I need them and their perspectives in my life.
Here’s a glimpse of some of the things we saw and did:
First we hung out at an old-fashioned drug store soda fountain. So cute! I felt a little weird about taking pictures inside, though, so I got the window on the way out.
Inside of Urban Outfitters. So artsy! I miss it. There’s Gaby and Cat at the bottom of the stairs.
Gaby modeled for me. I told her she should volunteer herself as an official Urban Outfitters Sesame Street hat model. Doesn’t she look chic?
She also modeled this poncho. She said she’d wear something like this in Bolivia, where she’s from. She could pretty much make a trash bag look fashionable, she’s so glam. Cat, too.
We walked around the downtown area more. This store’s called “Rock Paper Scissors”. End of story.
Ahh, they got the name of the store from Casablanca! Looove it!
Just your average, everyday couch.
Fairly close to my maiden name. Gaby said it makes her think of me when she sees it.
The three of us! Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants : ) (minus one, who actually is traveling!)
Love you guys! Thanks for a fun day!
Here’s some random pictures from this weekend. It was an all-around good one.
James bought me this on his way home from work and hanging out with the guys after. He’s such a sweetie : )
We pretty much got to spend the whole weekend together, which was great. We went out on the town Saturday – Chik-fil-a, ice skating, Starbucks, walking around a shopping center, bible talk, and then watching “Inception” with the Virginia Western-ers.
I also spent a lot of time knitting this weekend. (Please ignore my hideous peeling nails.) I almost have a scarf! This picture was very difficult to take, by the way.
James and I also went to Barnes and Noble last night to read, and then to Cheddar’s for dinner. Can I just say that Cheddar’s is my new favorite restaurant? Nice-looking, good food, and cheap. It lived up to the hype.
We decided together that we’re going to start journaling, especially with quiet times. I agreed partially because I wanted a new pretty journal. This one fit the bill.
And sorry, no outfit post. I had a really hard time getting a good picture out of what I wore, but I thought it was cute.
Also, wanted to take this minute to thank thrift and consignment stores, because these are two brands that a) you can’t get around here otherwise, and b) I wouldn’t be able to afford otherwise.
