Happy New Year! Everything sparkly and fireworks and brand new planners and champagne glasses. Some say (maybe you too) there isn’t any special that happens as the clock strikes midnight. But I believe there’s magic in it.
Think about it. The world finding something we all have in common and can celebrate together? The motivation of fresh goals and expectations? A new page and a fresh start? It seems like magic to me.
My theme for last year was abundance, and I really feel like God adjusted my perspective. He helped me see how much over-the-top abundance he puts in my life, right at my fingertips. I truly saw how full my life is – sometimes more than I could even keep up with, in good ways and challenging ones.
So now for this upcoming year, my theme is access.
Access means admittance, permission to approach, being approachable, or the means of approaching. My goal is to see this theme in three areas:
To be accessible to others. I want to connect with the people I care about, to fight for my relationships, and to prioritize those people over myself and my own pursuits.
To connect to the God who makes himself accessible to me. The Word tells us that we can be confident before him, that we can approach him, that he desires to interact with us. Which prompts me to want to know the God that loves his creation like that.
To access my best self. This year I found many times when I flat refused to believe anything good about myself. Instead, this year, I want to choose positive, to not believe lies, and to know that the qualities I admire in other people, I can access in myself. I know I can be confident, brave, joyful, peaceful, and passionate – I just need to choose it and connect to it.
So, your turn – what are your themes or goals for 2018? I’ll be sharing positive mantras I want to focus on this year on my Instagram this week – don’t miss it!
