This weekend, I’ll be turning 30. Whoa, that’s hard to believe. I remember watching 13 Going on 30 when I was 16, and thinking 30 seemed like forever away. Even a few years ago, 30 seemed like forever away.
So how do I feel? I’m actually looking forward to it. The 20s have been up, down, and all around. The highlights include my wedding, being pregnant twice, having two adorable little boys, and many adventures along the way, like traveling, starting to blog, and trying different careers.
But it’s been challenging too. Learning how to be a wife, after having been independent my whole life was a wake-up call. Becoming a mom, even more so. And in between, going through a period of infertility was humbling and strengthening at the same time. I think God used my twenties to humble me, to help me fight my selfishness, and to learn how to embrace the growth, the tension, and the time in between, rather than fight it.

I’m going into my 30s with a new perspective, and I’m celebrating a little differently too. While there will be a party (my hubby’s planning it, and it’s going to be good!), I’m not really getting amped up about gifts this year. Gifts are totally a love language for me, so usually I welcome them.
This year, though, I’m wanting to gift it forward. I want to celebrate with all of you and help people in need, too. So this year I’m doing something I’ve never done.
I mentioned that becoming a mom changed me so much. I had an uncomplicated pregnancy and delivery, but that’s not always the case. In fact, one woman dies every 2 minutes in the world due to pregnancy or deliver complications. Yes, even here in the US. 98% of these deaths are preventable.
Every Mother Counts is an organization addressing these issues, raising awareness, and working to help moms in need. They provide education, training, materials, and more to make safe pregnancies and deliveries happen.
This year, I invite you to celebrate with me by making a donation to Every Mother Counts. And to thank you for donating, I want to buy you a drink – a Starbucks drink to be more specific. When you donate and email me at email@example.com with proof of your completed donation (your receipt forwarded or by screenshot), I’ll send you a $5 Starbucks gift card. (Must send by August 6 at 11:59pm.) And then on August 5 (or whenever), you can enjoy your drink with me for my 30th birthday!
- Make a donation to Every Mother Counts for my birthday.
- Send me a screenshot or forwarded email with the confirmation of your donation at firstname.lastname@example.org by August 6, 2017 at 11:59pm.
- Receive $5 Starbucks gift card and get yourself a treat, on me.
- Do a little happy dance for my birthday (optional).
Thank you, thank you, thank you for being part of this blogging journey! I’m so grateful to have this space, and to get to connect with all of you.
