I’m starting a new series here on the blog that I’m calling “mom style basics”. I really do believe that style is accessible for everyone, and that even includes moms on the go. No, we don’t always have to do the stereotypical yoga pants thing. (Although I will be the first to tell you that I’m a big fan).
But it doesn’t take a lot of money, effort, or even some kind of fabulous fashion sense to make it happen. I don’t buy new clothes every day; I can’t afford to spend hours picking out my clothes; and no, I’m not the most stylish person in the world. (In high school I wore t-shirts and jeans every day. I’m pretty sure Teen People would have chosen me as a pity makeover story.)
Here’s the secret: it only takes a few really great basics to put together all kinds of great outfits. So my goal is to take one piece and style it four different ways, as well as giving you the resources to actually find these pieces, in case you want to add them to your closet.
This time around the focus is the olive cargo vest. This vest is magic. I don’t know how, but it somehow manages to go with most items – plain t-shirts, button-downs, even a casual dress. Pop some color in where you can (and feel comfortable). For example, I love my bright rain boots with my striped shift dress. Simple or more subtle statement necklaces work great.
I had the hardest time trying to locate one of these when I was in the market. Luckily after months of looking, I came across one at Target and picked it up right away. And lucky for you, I’ve done the work so that you don’t have to be like me. (These are all under $50, too!)
And if you’re looking for the other clothing/jewelry/shoe options, they are below:
Do you agree on the versatility of the olive vest, or no? What would you wear with it?
