This is the year I am finally embracing what this blog really is: a mama/lifestyle blog. For two years, I have avoided calling myself a “mom blogger”. It seems like too limited of a genre. I thought it would alienate too many of my readers. I also didn’t want to lose the parts of my blog that I enjoyed.
Taking a look at all the amazing mama bloggers out there makes me realize that things aren’t true. There are mom blogs I would follow even if I wasn’t one myself. They all have unique voices, styles and perspectives. They are real and raw at times, and then funny and lighthearted at others. They are women I can connect with and relate to.
There is so much negativity online, and lots of mom-shaming. I read a nasty article months ago by a “former” mom blogger who just tears apart anyone else who does it. I got a rude comment from a mom about how unoriginal and uncreative one of my posts is the other day. Somehow we feel more empowered behind a computer screen to say what we think.
But there’s an amazing group of mama bloggers that is rising up. It’s a group of positive women who struggle, make good and bad choices alike, and don’t take themselves too seriously. They are empowered to write real life and share it for everyone to see. I am grateful to be able to connect with them and get a little peek into their lives.
Anyways (sliding aside the soapbox), today I’m sharing some of my favorite mom blogs, the ones I check out all the time. I’m hoping that you love them as much as I do.
A Hopeful Hood – Julie would probably be a weekly (at least!) coffee date friend if we lived anywhere near each other. She is so incredibly encouraging, plus her words are faithful and always fun to read. She gets my sense of humor too, which is a total bonus.
Read It: Studying the Bible: 3 Questions to Ask – Probably the most simple and straightforward questions to ask yourself while reading, to get the most out of your Bible study.
Casual Claire – Claire is a recent mom of two who shares the good, the bad, and the crazy. I love following her Instagram because her IG Stories with her two little ones are so stinking cute! She shares a lot of travel, real mom life, and style.
Read It: I’m Not a Do It All Mom – Sometimes you see bloggers and think, “Well, isn’t their life perfect?” Claire shares the reality, and does it in a post where it feels like talking with a good friend.
Holding the Distaff – Okay, so I’m biased because Gina and I know each other in real life. But seriously – her blog is awesome. She is a supermom, with three kids, she homeschools, and they have an adoption going through. All the while, she shares practical and faithful advice and scriptures to help real-life mamas.
Read It: The Destructive Lie That Almost Derailed My Motherhood – Because we all have this thought that she shares about. I love this beautiful piece of encouragement for all moms, a spiritual hope that applies to everyone.
In Residence – I’d like to maybe be Anne when I grow up. She is chic and put together, but so accessible. I love her “Pin to Present” features and her on-point sense of style. Plus she has had amazing travel adventures, and you should check out her gorgeous home posts.
Read It: Around the World: Paris – Anne’s guide to Paris while she lived there like a local for two weeks. It’s incredibly thorough and will be one of my go-tos if I ever get to visit!
Merrick’s Art – This has been one of my favorite blogs for a while. All in all, I just love her sense of style. She has beautiful pictures with her three boys, and I love reading her tutorials and imagining I’m really going to sew something like that someday.
Read It: 8 Steps to Finding Your Personal Style – Wardrobe tips are a dime a dozen on the internet. But I love Merrick’s because I have seen hers change over the past couple years I’ve followed her, so you can see that her tips are great.
Shea Lennon – A fellow currently-pregnant mama whose everyday real and pretty street style I love! Plus she writes some fun series posts. I like the ones on what she got for $10 at Target, because who doesn’t love a great deal? And then there’s her “In My Library Tote” posts, which have great recommendations for both moms and toddlers!
Read It: Chatting with Jona (At Almost 3) – Meet Jona, Shea’s little guy, and get acquainted with his thoughts on life and how adorable they are. That is all.
Simple Moments Stick – Susannah’s blog is subtitled “Reclaiming the Beauty in Simplicity”, and it shows. Her blog just glows with not just simplicity, but faith, positivity, and refreshing honesty. All her posts are great, but I think the ones on marriage really stand out to me.
Read It: Let’s Talk About What Submission ISN’T – I shared this on my Facebook page previously because this post is everything I wanted to share about submission but didn’t know how to say it. Susannah’s words balance the grace and truth of the topic so well.
Simply Clarke – Marquis really is so well-rounded as a mom/lifestyle blogger, which makes for a fun daily grab-bag of a read. She shares thoughts on faith, marriage, mom life, style, and blog tips. Plus her little girl, Brooke, is too cute, and their family is also expecting a second baby, like we are!
Read It: 10 Tips for a Christ Centered Marriage – This post is from a few years ago, and it feels like it almost has that newlywed shine to it. But the words are wise beyond anniversaries. These are fantastic tips for staying focused on God as a married couple.
The Daybook – This blog blew up a couple years ago, and has been a bit quieter lately. Sydney’s style and tone have changed some, but her fun personality and hilarious awesome-and-awkward moments remain. I love her little hilarious and poignant snapshots into mom life especially. Also, pretty pictures.
Read It: Monday Morning – Just a great example of Sydney’s style of writing – the detail and appreciation for the little things in life that just serves as a quiet reminder to live that way, too.
The Samantha Show – Samantha is the mom next door. She’s like your partner-in-crime friend that you want to take you shopping, share victories and defeats in motherhood, and have a girls’ night out with. She’s sassy, stylish, and shares her heart regularly with her readers.
Read It: Because Sometimes, You’re Superwoman – This is a super recent post, but it just shows how Samantha reaches a community of mamas with her real-life struggles and encouragement. I love how well-rounded her blog is, as well.
Thoughts by Natalie – Natalie is the person you’d see on the street and want to covertly take her picture so you can try to copy her effortlessly gorgeous outfit (love her “Legit Mom Style” posts!). She’s also has her own jewelry business, and is currently sharing a series promoting other “mompreneurs”. I also love that she focuses on wellness and shares openly about her past struggles.
Read It: So Much More Than A Pumpkin Latte – One example of Natalie’s vulnerable sharing, and part of her journey to where she is now. I love hearing stories like this because not only does it highlight a victory story, but it helps connect you with the author.
Whimsical September – Erica is a gorgeous mama of two girls, and she blogs about mom life, marriage (especially being an army wife), faith, and style. I just love her writing style. Recently she went through a traumatic experience, almost losing her oldest daughter, and her faith through it all is so amazing to me.
Read It: The Story I Never Imagined I’d Have to Tell – More on the experience I mentioned above. Erica inspires me, again, with her faith, as well as her vulnerability through it all. She is one strong mama!
What mom blogs do you read and love? I’m always looking for more!
