What a whirlwind of a month! Between traveling, birthdays (one and two), a gestational diabetes test (passed!!), there was a lot on our plates. But much as we’ve had lots going on this month in particular, the days are always full, no matter what.
Furthermore, I am so glad it’s fall. The dipping temperatures are just refreshing. It’s not cold, per se, but definitely cooler. I’m breathing deep, enjoying the clean, crisp air and grabbing a jacket on my way out the door.
This month I’m continuing my “Mama Loves List” series. Other than the weather, and the fun fall activities to come, I’m loving these things:
Ever since staying at our family’s house in Seattle, and they had a huge bottle of this body wash from the Body Shop, I’ve been obsessing over this scent. I’m not even really a honey person! It’s a nice alternative to sugar and all, but usually too sickeningly sweet for me. Yet there is something about this smell that just keeps me reaching for it. I already have both the wash and lotion.
Scripture: Psalm 68:19
“Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.” It’s such a small statement, such a short scripture out of all I’ve been reading in Psalms, but incredible to stop and consider. The God who created galaxies and atoms takes the time to concern himself with what concerns me. He hears my prayers, and cares about the things I care about, even though I am here for such a short time on earth, and my problems are so relatively small. What an amazing thought!
Drink: Root Beer
I have been craving root beer like crazy, guys. I’m limiting myself to one a day, for health reasons, but I can’t stop. Growing up, I never really liked root beer. Lately I’ve been avoiding soda altogether. But suddenly – every single day. If I had to name my kid a pregnancy craving, root beer would definitely be an option.
Fall Accessory: Hats
Since it hasn’t yet been cool enough for me to forego my flip flops entirely (yes, very nearly going barefoot and pregnant), I haven’t really started rocking my boots and scarves yet. But I’m kind of a hat person, and I’m loving wool hats for fall. This black one by Jack+ Lucy is from the PopSugar Must Have Box for September, which seems like kind of a crazy thing to hand out to the multitudes in a subscription box. But it actually looks adorable on, as I’m sure most people are finding. (The lip color I’m wearing in this picture is also from the box – Smith & Cult’s The Shining Lip Lacquer in The Warning.)
Book: Shepherding a Child’s Heart
I’ve been digging through this book in an effort to understand parenting and discipline a little better. It’s one of those topics that has an unbelievable range of usually controversial opinions surrounding it. This book makes me a little uncomfortable, but not for bad reasons. Like the issue of taking a stand and being the authority in the household. Our society is not one to applaud authority – we shy away from it. But there is nothing wrong with setting boundaries and establishing who is in charge in the household – it’s part of God’s plan. I’m still learning a lot, but I am loving the fresh perspective coming from this book.
TV Show: Parenthood
I am re-watching this series on Netflix and it is just as good the second time. It has its moments I skip, but the vulnerability of the characters and their real problems – like helping their children through Aspberger’s, seeing their parents deal with their own problems, etc – keep drawing me back. It’s also clever and touching.
Shopping Aisle: “Bullseye’s Playground” at Target
I’m not sure when the Dollar Spot became “Bullseye’s Playground”, but regardless – it’s my favorite place in the store. And how they put it right at the front when you walk in! It’s like, “go ahead, start your trip with impulse purchases. You can do that here at Target. This is a safe place.” I picked up this $5 (!) felt tote, and some of their stationary recently, but there’s also cold weather accessories like hats and gloves, Halloween and Thanksgiving decor, and of course other fun cheap items you just can’t seem to walk by.
What are you loving this month?
Thank you to PopSugar for sending me their September Must Have Box for review this month. All opinions are my own.
